The Peace of His Presence

If you are anything like me, and if your family is anything like ours, sometimes peace doesn't come strolling into the home! Kids and adults alike have a tendency to wake up (or go to bed) frustrated, angry, or uninterested in peace and peacefulness! The same is true of our world. If you are looking for peace, good luck! Frankly, the opposite often plagues our headlines and walks our streets: turmoil, vengeance, anger, and need, to name a few.

In Luke 19:42 it says, "Jesus said to Jerusalem, 'I wish you knew today what would bring you peace..." Peace was on Jesus' mind and He wants it for us! When Jesus briefs His disciples about the coming Helper, the Holy Spirit, He shares with them the answer to our peace dilema: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you" (John 14:27, ESV). Paul, in Ephesians 2:14, tells us even more plainly, "He himself is our peace", and Micah prophesied the same solution "He shall be their peace" (Micah 5:5, ESV).

The sights, sounds, and sadness of a world at war for what only God can bring can be maddening. The good news is, God's manifest presence is available to all through Jesus Christ. The peace of His presence can be yours 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and 365 days per year! How do you get it? Correction...how do you get HIM? Answer: He already "has" you! He stands at the door of your home, quite literally, offering to be your peace. In Revelation 3:20 Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me." (ESV)

His blood has been shed. The battle has been secured. The gift is ready. Invite Him in today!
